PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deformation detector which enables using thereof for measuring the deformation under vibration of a construction as well by achieving a resistance to electromagnetic noises, moldability, a lower cost, a saving of space, a lighter weight and excellent response speed for the detection of the structural deformation of a translucent fiber-reinforced composite material. SOLUTION: In the deformation detector, the scattering of transmission light varies with changes in a fiber interval under a load depending, on which depends the bearing and the angle of the load on the light transmitting fiber- reinforced composite material. Utilizing the fact, the changes in the intensity of the transmission light is determined to allow the measurement of the deformation as caused by pulling and compression.
