PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling combustion of a petroleum space- heater which prevents contamination of room air with carbon monoxide, resulting from continuation of minimum combustion operation continued for a long time, when a heating temperature is not set so much higher than a room temperature before the start of the heating. SOLUTION: A room temperature is increased at a stretch to a set temperature by a forced maximum combustion just after the operation start. If the room temperature is raised higher than the set temperature, it is recognized as a false temperature, and the heating is changed to a minimum combustion for a predetermined time, and then the combustion of a burner 5 is stopped. Thus, the room air is not so contaminated with carbon monoxide, etc., contained in the exhaust gas, as compared with the room temperature in a minimum combustion continued for a long time.
