PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for controlling pressure in a refuse incinerator which enables improvement of the controllability of the pressure in the incinerator on the basis of the oxygen concentration in the incinerator as well as the pressure in the incinerator. SOLUTION: Main operator command is operated by an incinerator pressure controller 22 based on the pressure in the incinerator detected by a pressure detector 18. Correction operator command is operated by an oxygen concentration controller 42 based on the oxygen concentration in the incinerator detected by an oxygen concentration detector 19. The correction operator command is outputted only when a refuse intruding device is operated, and when the device is stopped the output becomes zero. The main operator command is added to the correction operator command in an adder 26 and the resultant is outputted as an operator command. According to the operator command, the opening of an exhaust gas damper or a primary damper is operated to control the pressure in the incinerator. Thus, when the furnace oxygen concentration is detected to be as lowered, the damper opening is controlled anticipating generation of gas by burning, thereby suppressing the pressure in the incinerator from being raised.
