PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an on-vehicle hands-free portable telephone set that can attain a complete hands-free speech at driving of an automobile. SOLUTION: In the case of transmission, when a predetermined specific voice is uttered, a voice switch 17 is operated, a portable telephone 20 is hooked on, and in the case of an abbreviated number, the uttered voice is recognized, an ear hook phone 2 replies a corresponding number in a synthesis voice and a user confirms it and makes a phone call by using a portable telephone 20. After the connection to a recipient, a usual conversation is made by a microphone 4 and the ear hook phone 2. In the case of receiving an incoming call, an opposite number is reported in the synthesis voice at the arrival of the incoming call when a ringer tone rings. When the user confirms it and utters a predetermined specific voice, the voice switch 17 is operated to bring the portable telephone to a hook-on state and the user makes a speech with the opposite party. Furthermore, the user uses a character recognition function, a voice recognition function and a voice synthesis function to make communication with an electronic mail in hands-free.
