PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To electronically correct the color drift of the color separation images by an eccentric optical system when the color images are displayed or picked up by using the eccentric optical system. SOLUTION: This color image display system consists of a color image display element which synthesizes and displays the color separation images and an observation optical system which projects and displays the color images displayed on the color image display element to the observer's eyeballs. The observation optical system consists of the eccentric optical system including an eccentric prism having an internal reflection surface which has power in at least eccentric arrangement, an incident surface which is a transmission surface and an exit surface which is a transmission surface. The pixel positions of the respective color separation images displayed on the color image display element are shifted and displayed so as to negate the color drift generated by the eccentric optical system of the corresponding color separation images.
