Composite utility pole (22) structures and methods of manufacture using a pultrusion process. The poles (22) may be N sided, with longitudinal pre- stressed rovings (58) in each corner. The inner periphery of the poles (22) may have flat regions (36) centrerd between the outside corners, with the fl at regions (36) joined by circular arcs (40) in the corner regions.
