The loom, for weaving terry fabrics, has separate monitors (30,18) for the bands of ground warps (1) and pile warps (15), freely accessible from one side of the loom. A deflection rod (22), between the shed mechanism (8) and the ground warp feed (2,5,6), supports the ground warps and carries the pile warps through them at an intersection, and is the start point for the taper at the rear shed (23) for both bands of warps. The monitors for both bands of warps are on two different planes, with a horizontal plane (34) at least for the pile warp monitor. A pile warp deflector (26,28) is at the monitor, with spring pliability, to compensate for length changes as the warps pass around in the direction of travel. The length compensation deflector is a sprung shaft and/or a sprung plate. The pile warp deflection rod at the shed is on the opposite side of the ground warps to the pile warp feed (16,17). The ground warp monitor is in front of the intersection point, between the pile and ground warps, in the direction of travel. The path of the pile warps is deflected by 360[deg], after the feed. The pile warp monitor is after the deflection.
