Attachment unit is moved by motor and tracks located under cover (25) to first stand-by position which allows maintenance person/operator access to work space, by using top of unit (14) to pass over from one side of printer to other. When unit (14) is in second stand-by position, above operation position, operator can move in work space from front to rear side of printing machine. Attachment unit (14) is located at the plate change unit (80). Unit lifting device is located at both side of unit (80) under cover (25). Attachment houses e.g. laser imaging unit. Attachment unit is moved to lower first stand-by position, below its operating position. Its base fits into groove (114) of machine. It allows maintenance person/operator access to work space, by using top of unit (14) to pass over from one side of printer to other. When unit (14) is in second stand-by position, above operation position, operator can move in work space from front to rear side of printing machine. A fall prevention device is pulled out in second stand-by position. Unit is moved vertically along upper section of printing device.
