The aim of the invention is to develop a decorative element using a light source placed behind a translucent layer with a thin-walled wood veneer, whereby the layer and the wood veneer can be jointly deformed, and the structure of the wood veneer can be seen at distinctly low levels of luminosity. To this end, the invention provides that the decorative element is comprised of a casing (1) with a translucent covering (4) that can be fastened to a casing edge of the casing (1), whereby the covering (4) is made from the thin-walled wood veneer having a thickness ranging from 0.1 mm to 0.3 mm. The wood veneer is coated on both sides with translucent plastic and forms a composite material, which is transparent to the light of a light source (3) having a luminosity ranging from 250 to 300 lux and which can be deformed with an angle of inclination of up to 5 degrees.
