The engine has an exhaust gas turbocharger(21) incorporated into the exhaust line(48,46), and an exhaust gas heat exchanger(22) is connected to the turbine housing(23) to remove heat from the exhaust gas which flows through the turbine wheel(27). The turbine housing has an additional wall(49) creating a hollow space(50) which has an inlet(51) and outlet(52) connection for the intake and discharge of heat-absorbing cooling fluid upstream of the heat exchanger which may be used to heat up the interior of the vehicle or for windscreen de-icing purposes.
