Mixer (2) has a recirculation path (86) inside the casing, which can be changed by altering the direction of screw rotation. It includes pressing- and recycling regions (89, 90), with an extractor (3) which can be closed. The rotary conveying screw (9) with gradient ( alpha ), lies with clearance from wall sections (38, 84), against which pressure is exerted when the screw is rotated. This causes local pressing and frictional-heating. The constituents (5, 6) are mixed and conditioned. Particles are rolled and broken down. The granules become coated with a layer of adhesive binder. An Independent claim is included for the corresponding method of manufacture. The product itself, is also claimed. Preferred features: Distinct upper and lower wall sections (34, 35) forming the riser tube surround the screw, rising at angle alpha . A hopper (10) which can be shut off tightly, receives the constituents. Lower and upper openings (12, 33) complete the solids recirculation path, with an outlet tube (4) connected to the upper end of the riser. The tube forms a variable-volume filling unit. Its upper and lower openings (14, 16) are closed by flap valves (15, 17). A rod (19) and lever (18) are provided for automatic- or manual adjustment of the valves. The screw is located more closely to the lower section and sides of the casing, minimum clearance being a few centimeters. The recycling zone is formed in the region of greater clearance, on the upper side of the screw. The casing comprises trough-like sections. Variants of the design, based on the foregoing principles, including versions with parallel, multiple mixing screws, are also described.
