MONITORING SYSTEM FOR RAILWAY VEHICLES

A monitoring system to be used for monitoring components such as wheels, axles or wheel bearing boxes of railway vehicles. A sensor unit (1) is placed in the vicinity of a wheel axle end and a processing arrangement (2) is placed in the vehicle car body and a wireless connection is adapted to transmit information from the sensor unit to the processing arrangement. The sensor unit comprises sensors (3) for one or more of the parameters vibration, temperature, velocity and acceleration. The sensor unit further comprises means for processing (5) the information obtained by the sensors, communications means and a power supply. The power supply generates power from the rotation of the wheel axle. A polarized member rotates with the wheel axle whereby a current is induced in an armature coil.
