<p>A variable length encoding method comprising step (a) of performing VLC and thereby performing code assignment to a set of (Last, Run, Level), step (b) of subtracting LMAX which is the maximum Level corresponding to the (Last, Run) from the Level, calculating a corrected Level, and performing code assignment to a set of (Last, Run, corrected Level), step (c) of subtracting the sum of the RMAX which is the maximum Run corresponding to the (Last, Level) and one from the Run, calculating a corrected Run, and performing code assignment to a set of (Last, corrected Run, Level), step (d) of parallel performing FLC assignment, and step (e) of performing selection according to the preset priority. A variable length encoder is also disclosed. By such a variable length encoding method and by using such a variable length encoder, variable length encoding of short operation cycle can be done.</p> |
