<p>Plastics compositions contain as a solvent plasticizer an ester composition obtainable by esterifying a crude acid mixture comprising the residue, after the bulk of the adipic acid has been removed by crystallisation, of an oxidation product of cyclohexane, cyclohexanol or cyclohexanone, with oxo isodecanol. The crude acid mixture generally consists of approximately equimolare proportions of adipic, glutaric and succinic acids, while the isodecanol is believed to be mainly isomeric trimethylheptanols. A plastics composition exemplified comprises polyvinyl chloride, the ester composition of the invention and the ester composition of the invention and white lead paste (basic lead carbonate plus dioctyl phthalate); it is formed into a sheet. Other substances stated to be plasticized by the invention are vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, cellulose esters and synthetic rubbers.ALSO:The invention comprises an ester composition obtainable by esterifying a crude acid mixture comprising the residue, after the bulk of the adipic acid has been removed by crystallisation, of an oxidation product of cyclohexane, cyclohexanol or cyclohexanone, with Oxo isodecanol.
