The device has two switch elements in series between the d.c. source poles, a transformer, at least one capacitor, via which the transformer primary is connected between the junction of the switch elements and a pole of the d.c. source, a diode in series with the transformer secondary, a smoothing capacitor and a control circuit for alternately switching the first and second switch elements on and off with variable and fixed on durations. The device has a series circuit with two switch elements (1,2) between the direct current source (7) poles, a transformer (8), at least one capacitor (5,6), via which the transformer primary is connected between the junction of the switch elements and one pole of the direct current source, a diode (9) in series with the transformer secondary, a smoothing capacitor (10) in parallel with the secondary and diode series circuit and a control circuit (12,13) for alternately switching the switch elements on and off. The switch-on period of the first switch element is variable and that of the second is fixed.
