The ignition plug has a conducting material attachment element for attachment to the engine, an isolator inside the attachment element with an axial hole, a metal central electrode in the axial hole insulated from the attachment element and an earth electrode opposite the central electrode. The central and/or earth electrode is a base material with an area to which a discharge tip is welded with a molten section of size related to the tip size. The ignition plug has an attachment element (10) of conducting material for attachment to the engine, an isolator (20) arranged inside the attachment element and with an axial hole, a central electrode (30) of metal insulated from the attachment element arranged in the axial hole and an earth electrode (40) opposite the central electrode. The central and/or earth electrode is a base material with an area to which a precious metal or alloy discharge tip (60) is welded with a molten section whose size is related to the tip size. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of manufacturing an ignition plug for an engine.
