The vehicle has an automated clutch with an actuator controlled by a control unit. A gearbox selection lever has a sensor that detects its operation. A displacement difference signal is used to produce an intention to change signal. No intention signal is produced for a displacement difference signal below a first threshold; one is generated for a displacement difference signal above a second threshold; the threshold separation is variable. The vehicle has an automated clutch (2) in the drive train with a drive motor (1) and gearbox (3), whereby the clutch has an actuator controlled by a control unit, a selection lever (10) for operating the gearbox, whereby a sensor detects operation of the selection lever. A displacement difference signal can be generated using the sensor signals by a controler and used to produce an intention to change signal, whereupon the clutch is automatically disengaged. No intention to change signal is produced for a displacement difference signal below a first threshold and one is generated for a displacement difference signal above a second threshold; the difference between the thresholds can be varied.
