The device has a semiconducting substrate (1) of first conductivity type, a semiconducting layer (2) of second conductivity type and an anti-reflex layer (3) stacked on the surface of the substrate. A front electrode (4) of narrow rib form penetrates the anti-reflex layer and makes an electrical connection with the semiconducting layer. The height to width ratio in a cross-section transverse to the electrode is 0.4 or more. Independent claims are also included for the following: a method of manufacturing a solar battery.
