The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-arylethylamine derivates having an alkyl substituent in the 1-position, of the formula (I) <paragraph lvl="0"><in-line-formula>aryl-CHR1-CR2(NR3R4)-(CHR5R6)n-CHR7R8 (I) </in-line-formula>by reaction of aromatic olefins of the general formulae (Ila-c) <paragraph lvl="0"><in-line-formula>aryl-CHR1-CHR2-(CR5R6)a-CR5=CR6-(CR5R6)bCHR7R8 (IIa) </in-line-formula><paragraph lvl="0"><in-line-formula>aryl-CHR1-CR2=CR5-(CR5R6)c-CHR7R8 (IIb) </in-line-formula><paragraph lvl="0"><in-line-formula>aryl-CHR1-CHR2-(CR5CR6)c-CR5=CR7CR8 (IIc) </in-line-formula>with amines of the general formula (III) <paragraph lvl="0"><in-line-formula>R3R4NH </in-line-formula>in the presence of a base.
