Bottom casting plant for light alloys has a closure plate (11) fitted with two sliding plates (14,16). The upper plate (14) closes an aperture (15) which connects with the casting inlet. The lower plate (16) closes a lower aperture (17) which connects with the riser pipe. When both plates are open, a staggered connection is produced between the furnace and the mold. An Independent claim is included for a method for bottom casting using the closure plate.
