The present invention concerns the application of Quaterfluo (RTM) compounds as biocidesThese compounds have the following general structure:A-Q-N<(+)>-C-N<(+)>-Q'-A' 2X<(-)>A and A' = perfluorinated (F-(CF2)n) or partially fluorinated (F-(CF2)n(CH2)m), side chains, identical or not.Q and Q' = connectors which may or may not have a chemical function such as amide, ester, thioester, thioether, amine, ether.C = spacer arm (CH2)p, linear, branched hydrocarbon or having cyclic elements which may or may not be aromatic, or hydrocarbonaceous spacer containing heteroatoms or graftable, cross-linkable, or polymerisable chemical functions in main chain or sidechain.N = tetracoordinated nitrogen atomX - counter-ion, Br or Clm, n and p are integers.These Quaterfluo (RTM) ZY compounds may be used as antimicrobials, antibacterials, antifungals, anti-algals, against gram+ and gram- bacteria, fungi, yeasts and algae. The Quaterfluo (RTM) ZY compounds may be used alone or in formulation in solution for water treatment, or with composite or metal supports.Similarly, they may be used deposited on a support by polymerization, cross-linking, grafting, or as a biofilm.
