PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester fiber free from the fatal defects of polyester fiber comprising low resiliency and low recovery under repeated compression and provide a cloth produced by using the fiber. SOLUTION: The objective polyester fiber has an apparent Young's modulus of 100-2,000 N/mm2, an initial stress of 0.2-0.6 cN/dtex, an initial elongation of 4-60%, a breaking strength of 0.5-1.7 cN/dtex, a breaking elongation of 120-420%, an X/Y ratio of 0.04-1.4 (X is initial elongation; and Y is the difference between the secondary inflection point and the breaking elongation) and aβ/αratio of 0.15-2.2 (αis the strength difference between the primary inflection point 4 and the secondary inflection point 5; andβis the difference between the secondary inflection point 5 and the breaking strength).
