PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an energy absorbing steering device which has a small number of part items and so can facilitate its cost reduction. SOLUTION: An energy absorbing part 10 consists of a band energy absorbing plate 10a having both ends mounted on a steering column 3 or on one body side with a steering shaft 2 as a center and a pair of protrusions (holding means) 10b, 10c fixed on the steering column 3 or on the other body side for holding the energy absorbing plate 10a with a loop deformed portion 10a1 formed on the energy absorbing plate 10a and compressing the deformed portion 10a1 of the energy absorbing plate 10a in accordance with the relative movement of the steering column 3.
