PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a glass plate for a mirror having an excellent mechanical strength and a mirror using the same, and to provide a method for producing the mirror. SOLUTION: This glass plate for a mirror having a metal oxide thin film is readily obtained by providing the surface of a mirror substrate with a composition for a metal oxide thin film consisting essentially of zirconium oxide and crystallizing the composition. This mirror is obtained by using the glass plate. This method for producing the plate glass for a mirror is provided. The composition has a zirconium component and a metal component except zirconium. The zirconium component is a salt of a zirconium complex or a zirconium salt formed from an aminopolycarboxylic acid and a zirconium compound and an amine. The metal component except zirconium is a compound containing a metal except zirconium. The ratio of the zirconium component is 70 to 98 mol% calculated as zirconium oxide and that of the metal component except zirconium is 2 mol% to 30 mol% calculated as the metal oxide in the whole metal component of the composition. The mirror having the metal oxide thin film excellent in mechanical strength is obtained by using the composition.
