PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To distribute load of a rear gate to a car body and to realize superior rigidity. SOLUTION: In this rear body structure for a vehicle, the rear gate is openably and closably supported via a hinge by a D-pillar reinforcement 19 extending along a rear pillar. A roof reinforcement 18 with a front end joined to the vicinity of a C-pillar in front of a rear pillar reinforcement, a belt line reinforcement 12, and a wheel house reinforcement 13 are joined substantially horizontally in a body fore and aft direction to the rear pillar reinforcement 19. A front end of the belt line reinforcement 12 is joined to a suspension reinforcement 11 joined to an upper part of a wheel house and extending along the C-pillar.
