PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transfer unit for printer which can be constituted in a small space by eliminating a mechanical linking section for transferring data to a recording head. SOLUTION: In order to transfer recording data from the control section of a printer to a recording head 2 being moved integrally with a timing belt 5 to scan a line being recorded, the timing belt 5 is provided with a rewritable data storing face on the outer circumferential surface thereof. A head 9 for writing a recording data signal is provided on the body 1 of a printer oppositely to the data storing face and a head 10 for reading out the recording data signal is provided on the carriage 3 of the recording head oppositely to the data storing face. The recording data signal delivered from the control section is written on the timing belt 5 thence read out therefrom and delivered to the recording head 2.
