PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitator for garbage disposal which crushes a lump disturbing the decomposition of garbage by fermentation or drying. SOLUTION: The agitator is disposed in an agitation tank for decomposing the charged garbage by drying or fermentation to recycle it as fertilizer or feed. Further, the agitator has a plurality of rotating paddles 10 radially furnished to a rotating shaft 15 to be rotated along the circular inner peripheral wall of the tank and arranged in a plurality of rows in the longitudinal direction of the shaft 15 and fixed blades 20 projecting from the inner peripheral wall, arranged longitudinally in the plurality of rows and with a gap 21 formed to pass the related paddles 10. The width of the gap 21 is set in conformity with the shape of the largest garbage to be decomposed.
