PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminescent agent for organic electroluminescent element having luminescence maximum in the red region or in the near red region and its use. SOLUTION: The luminescent agent for an organic electroluminescent element contains a coumarin derivative represented by formula (1) (wherein R1 to R12 are each H or a suitable substituent), e.g. by formula (7). An organic electroluminescent element containing the agent and an information display apparatus using the element are also provided.
