PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain leak-proof cuffs which effectively prevent the transverse leakage of an absorptive article. SOLUTION: This absorptive article (sanitary napkin 1) includes a liquid permeable top sheet 4, a back sheet 2 and an absorption core 3 held between both sheets. Both sides of the sanitary napkin 1 are provided with leak-proof cuffs 5 and 5 to prevent the transverse leakage. The surfaces of the leak-proof cuffs 5 and 5 are provided with layers 8 and 8 of a silicone compound. The transverse leakage may be surely prevented by the leak-proof cuffs 5 and 5. Since excretion fluid, such as menstrual blood, hardly sticks to the leak-proof cuffs, a user does not visually feel uncomfortableness in exchanging the sanitary napkin.
