PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a low-density board excellent in recycling properties, having a small in difference in densities at the front and back faces, and excellent in uniformity. SOLUTION: This method for producing the low-density board by introducing a slurry regulated so that the slurry composition may have >=550 ml Canadian standard freeness (CSF) by a sucking or pouring-in method on a mesh of a dehydrating apparatus to dehydrate the slurry and to form an accumulation layer of a mesh-unpenetrable fine component in the slurry, on the mesh, and drying the accumulation layer, comprises slicing or polishing the unevenness of the surface of the accumulation layer at the side uncontacted with the mesh in the horizontal direction to smoothen the surface, and subjecting the surface to a compression treatment so that the thickness may be <=0.9 time.
