摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treatment method for effectively improving chipping resistance by performing surface treatment by electrical discharge machining. SOLUTION: A coating layer 60d is formed on the face 60a of a super hard base metal 60c composing a cutting tool 60 by a discharge surface treatment method. The Young's modulus of the coating material composing the coating layer 60d is smaller than that of the super hard base metal. Further, the thickness of the coating layer 60d is 10-30μm and the coating layer 60d is formed into a gradient structure. Moreover, after the formation of the coating layer 60d, a stage of imparting shot peening effect is performed.
