PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automated warehouse with excellent storage efficiency. SOLUTION: When an article 20 is not present on a forward part of an article storage shelf 3 but the article 20 is present on a rear part thereof, and the article 20 on the rear part is taken out, firstly, a hook 23 of a slide fork 17 is engaged with a part 21 to be engaged of the article 20 on the rear part to pull out the article 20 on the rear part to the forward part. Secondly, an elevating/lowering base 16 is lowered to disengage the hook 23 from the part 21 to be engaged. Then, the known article 20 is allowed to be scooped with the slide fork 17.
