PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hair dye having extremely high hair dyeing power, slight color fading over time, slightly causing change in color tone of the hair dye on storage. SOLUTION: This hair dye composition contains a direct dye of formula (1) [A1 and A2 are each a group of formula (2) or a group of formula (3) (R3 is a (substituted) 1-4C alkyl group; R4 is H, Cl, a methyl group, a methoxy group or an ethoxy group; R5 is H or a (substituted) 1-4C alkyl group; R6 is H, a (substituted) 1-4C alkyl group or a (substituted) 1-4C alkoxy group); D1 to D4 are each N or a CR7 group (R7 is H, a (substituted) 1-4C alkyl group or a cyano group); R1 and R2 are each H or a (substituted) 1-4C alkyl group; p and q are each 0 or 1; X- is an anion].
