The invention relates to a mineral wool plant substrate comprising a coherent matrix of mineral wool and bound to the matrix a biologically active additive or a microorganism producing said additive, which additive has a favourable effect on plants. The invention further relates to the use of a mineral wool plant substrate comprising a coherent matrix of mineral wool and bound to the matrix a microorganism producing a biologically active additive, in the growth of crops under specified conditions. Also disclosed is a process for producing the mineral wool plant substrate.
