Standing wave design of a nine-zone smb for the recovery of solute with intermediate affinity in a ternary mixture

Nine zone simulated moving beds (SMBs), and methods of designing such SMBs using standing wave precepts are provided for purifying multi-component fluid mixtures. The invention is applicable to systems exhibiting linear isotherms, and is especially applicable to such systems when separations are inhibited by mass transfer resistances.
