PURPOSE: To obtain a modified magnesia fine powder excellent in slaking resistance by directly sticking hydrophilic carbon particles on the surface of magnesia fine particles, and to obtain a refractory improved in both serviceability and workability by using the above fine powder. CONSTITUTION: The objective modified magnesia fine powder for monolithic refractory materials is obtained by directly sticking hydrophilic carbon particles with an average diameter smaller than that of the magnesia fine powder to the surface of magnesia fine powder. The diameter of the magnesia fine powder is about 1-20μm, that of the hydrophilic carbon particles being about 1/1000 to 1/5 times the diameter of the magnesia fine powder. The hydrophilic carbon particles is e.g. hydrophilic carbon black, soil-like graphite, hydrophilic soil-like graphite, hydrophilic flaky graphite. The other objective magnesia-contg. monolithic refractory material is obtained by incorporating the skeletal component with 4-40wt.% of the modified magnesia fine power. |
