Antimicrobial polymers and polymer blends made of polymer alkyl acrylamides

The invention relates to antimicrobial polymers or polymer blends thereof which can be obtained by polymerising a monomer of formula (I) wherein R<1> = -H or CH3, R2 = H, a branched or unbranched aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with 1 - 10 carbon atoms and R<3> = H, a branched or unbranched aliphatic hydrocarbon radical with 1 - 10 carbon atoms, and optionally mixing the product thereof with at least at least one other polymer. The antimicrobial polymers or polymer blends can be used as a coating for substrates in lacquers or protective paints.
