The friction clutch comprises a reaction plate (13), a friction disc (14), a pressure plate (12) and a cover (11). The pressure plate consists of two half plates (12A,12B) rotating integrally with the input shaft but axially mobile relative to each other under the action of the wear compensating device. The compensating device comprises a pair of complementary ramps, the support ramp rotates integrally with the one of the half plates and the other adjustment ramp moves circumferentially relative to the support ramp in the compensating direction. The circumferential movement is controlled by a tripping element sensitive to the wear condition and is prevented from moving in the other direction by a one-way slit segment (24).
