Use of a vegetable oil composition for the temporary protection and lubrication of metallic surfaces to impart improved tribological properties and corrosion resistance

The invention enables the protection of a metallic surface by a single application combining improved lubrication and corrosion resistance The use of an oil composition for the temporary protection and lubrication of metallic surfaces is claimed. The composition comprises:- -30% min. of an 18C max. fatty acid triglyceride(optionally unsaturated) (compound A) ; - 5 - 30% of an 18C max. fatty acid triglyceride with an oleic acid content of at least 60% (compound B) ; - 5 - 30% of an ester derived from the condensation of a 1 - 12C(preferably 1 - 2C) alcohol with an 18C max. fatty acid (compound C) ; - and, optionally, 5 - 20% of an amide derived from the condensation of an 18C max. fatty acid with an 2 - 6C mono-, di- or tri-alkanolamine (compound D). Independent claims are also included for the prepared compositions, application of the compositions and metallic components protected by the said compositions.
