<p>Waste compaction apparatus 2 has a screw conveyor 4 which conveys material along a passage 6 toward an exit nozzle 10 which constricts the flow, to cause compaction. The screw conveyor 4 is slidably mounted on a shaft 300, biased toward the nozzle 10.
