Apparatus for the biological treatment of liquids, specially waste water

Waste waters or other liqs. are treated biologically in a vessel (1) divided into 2 compartments (3 and 4) by a vertical wall (2). The 2 compartments communicate freely above and below the wall, which does not extend for the whole height of the vessel. Microorganisms are present in the vessel, supported on suspended particles (6) of lower density than the liq. phase. Solids and liqs. are caused to circulate concurrently around the 2 compartments by gas injected (5) in the base of 1 compartment (4). Treated liq. is removed from the base of the other compartment after sepn. from the other 2 lighter phases (gas and solid) by passing between a series of offset rows of obstacles (9).
