917,936. Electroplating bright copper. VICKERS Ltd., S. A. Nov. 30, 1961 [Dec. 8, 1960], No. 42302/60. Class 41. Bright Cu, which is resistant to blistering when heated, is electroplated from an alkaline cyanide bath incorporating Co. The bath comprises:- its pH being adjusted to from 10-14. The Cu may be added as cuprous cyanide and the Co as the chloride, sulphate or as sodium or potassium cobalticyanide. The bath may include wetting- agents, e.g. of the alcohol sulphate type such as sodium octyl sulphate or of the aliphatic alcohol ethylene oxide condensate type. It may also include compounds which improve the quality of the deposit such as sodium or potassium fluoride or sodium or potassium tartrate. Substances which improve the throwing power may be added, such as amines, e.g. diethanolamine, triethanolamine or triethylene tetramine. The bath may be agitated mechanically or by air and may be operated at 30-80‹ C. using D.C. at 10-50 amps./sq. ft. or using periodically reversed current at 30-100 amps/sq. ft. with a plating to deplating time ratio in the range of from 2 : 1 to 10: 1 and a total cycle length of from 5 seconds to 5 minutes.
|
