PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear car body structure of an automobile capable of preventing bending deformation of a floor panel at collision time and capable of avoiding an increase in work manhours. SOLUTION: In this rear car body structure of the automobile for joining a side member 10 extending in the vehicle longitudinal direction to an under surface of a front side floor panel 2 so that a rear end part 10b of the side member 10 is positioned on the vehicle front side more than a vertical wall part 6 by forming the stepped vertical wall part 6 by joining a rear end part 2d of the front side floor panel 2 and a front end part 3a of a rear side floor panel 3 positioned at an elevated spot higher than the front side floor panel 2, a reinforce 11 is joined to an upper surface of the front side floor panel 2 so as to be opposed to the side member 10 by sandwiching the floor panel 2. An extension part 12 extending to rearward of a vehicle is formed in the reinforce 11. A flange part 12a abutting to the vertical wall part 6 is bent and formed in the extension part 12. The flange part 12a is joined to a front face of the vertical wall part 6.
