PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge aligning device for a cutter capable of easily and neatly aligning the edge of a booklet disposed in an edge aligning position, before cutting. SOLUTION: In this edge aligning device 21, an aligning plate 22 has a brush 23 for coping with the unevenness of the edge, a first link mechanism 24 and a second link mechanism 25. The aligning plate 22 is moved into positions S1, S2, S3 by the turning motion in an arrow direction P to gradually approach the edge of each booklet 2. Further, the aligning plate 22 is put in linear motion while turning as shown by an arrow Q from a position S3 and moved into a position S4 to abut on the edge from a horizontal direction to apply pressing force. The back face of each booklet can thereby be brought into uniform contact with a back guide 6, and the edges can be vertically lined up and neatly aligned.
