PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle measuring instrument in which the extending and contracting state of a pointer can be variously seen according to flattened state under the vertical flattening of a scale plate by using virtual image technique and making the end part of the pointer visually non-confirmable when the point is shown short. SOLUTION: The virtual image of the pointer 40 is imaged on the scale plate 20a by a half mirror 30. The virtual image length of the pointer 40 is seen long in the lateral direction of the scale plate 20a and short in the vertical direction of the scale plate 20a by the shielding effect of a cover plate 60 according to the rotating position of the pointer 40 to the tip of the pointer 40.
