PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recording head and method of making the same wherein a common liquid chamber has a sufficient capacity and a fluid passage substrate has a sufficient strength at a portion to which a seal member is contacted. SOLUTION: The fluid passage substrate 16 forming a head chip 12 has a beam 28 which is formed such that only a thickness of an edge section 16C in a ceiling section 16B forming the common liquid chamber 22 is increased. A rib 36 of an elastic seal member 30 is brought into contact with the edge section 16C. Even when the rib 36 is pressed against the edge section 16C, the ceiling section 16B (the edge section) is not broken because the ceiling section 16B has a sufficient mechanical breaking strength by virtue of the beam 28 formed at the edge section 16C, thereby improving a manufacturing yield of the ink jet recording head 10. As the beam 28 is provided only to the edge section 16C, it is possible to sufficiently reduce the thickness of the other part of the ceiling section 16B so that the capacity of the common liquid chamber 22 can be sufficiently enlarged. As a result, it is possible to prevent the defective printing which may be caused by a passage resistance of the common liquid chamber 22 even in the high speed printing.
