PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject device as an oscillating mechanism capable of densely winding a fishline, suppressed in production cost while easily securing fishline winding accuracy. SOLUTION: This oscillating mechanism 6 for a spinning reel, which is a device for making a reciprocating movement back and forth of a spool interlockingly with the rotation of a handle set up on the reel body of the spinning reel rotatably mounted with a rotor for guiding a fishline, has a pinion gear 12, a stepped gear set 13, and a movement mechanism 17; wherein the pinion gear 12 is designed to rotate interlockingly with the rotation of the handle, the stepped gear set 13 is composed of a larger-diameter gear 19 engageable with a driving gear and a smaller-diameter gear 20 disposed concentrically with the larger-diameter gear 19 and integratedly rotatable therewith, and the movement mechanism 17 has a driven gear 16 engageable on the smaller-diameter gear 20 and functions to make a reciprocating movement of the spool on rotation of the driven gear 16.
