PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photo-material having desirable absorption and sensitivity waveform, being not only high in sensitivity but also less in residual color than conventional multi-layer absorption, and a methine coloring matter usable to the silver halide photo-material. SOLUTION: This methine coloring matter compound contains at least one group represented by formula (I) or formula (II) in a molecule, and this silver halide photo-material contains the compound. Formula (I): X-Y, wherein X is an atom more electronegative than carbon atom. Formula (II): Y, wherein Y is an atom more electronegative than carbon atom and has at least an independent electron pair.
