PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a face member, finished by forging, of a golf club head having a thin hitting plate. SOLUTION: In the forging method (200), to obtain a final face member structure, the heating and pressurization of a metal bar are done several times. The heating of the metal bar is executed below 1,000 deg.C for less than 20 min. The final face member structure (60) has preferably a hitting plate (72) with a variable thickness. The metal bar preferably contains titanium.
