PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional programmable video signal processing system that the system outputs a video image as if it were caused by a system failure or that a system failure is caused when program contents differ from desired contents because the contents of the video signal processing and the processing procedure in the system depend entirely on the contents of a program ROM. SOLUTION: An identification code to identify a program version is stored in the program ROM storing a program denoting the contents of video signal processing and the processing procedure, the system adaptability of the program ROM of a video signal processing circuit is discriminated by using the identification code, and when the program ROM is not adapted to the system, a fixed video pattern denoting the system in adaptability is transmitted to a post-stage display device and displayed in place of a video output of the video signal processing circuit.
